titleOfInvention | Preparation of glycidyl (meth)acrylate |
abstract | PURPOSE: To prepare the title compound useful as a coating compound, especially powder coating compound, in high qualities and yield, economically in an industrial scale, by the ester exchange reaction of methyl (meth)acrylate with glycide in the presence of an weak inorganic acid potassium salt as a catalyst. n CONSTITUTION: High-quality glycidyl methacrylate or glycidyl acrylate is prepared, in high yeield, by the ester exchange reaction of methyl methacrylate or methyl acrylate with glycide using a weak inorganic acid potassium salt, e.g. potassium carbonate, as a catalyst. The amount of the catalyst is 0.00005W0.1mol, pref. 0.0001W0.05mol per 1mol of glycide. Methanol produced by the ester exchange reaction is pref. distilled off without delay to suppress the side reactions. The above catalyst is easily hadleable and disposable, and available easily at low cost. It can be used without complicated pretreatments, and has no undesirable effect to the treatment of the reaction product. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1980,JPO&Japio |
