abstract PURPOSE: To enhance the transmission rate of oxygen by contacting air heated to above a given temperature with a permselective membrane to produce oxygen- enriched air. n CONSTITUTION: Oxygen-enriched air having a higher oxygen concentration than that in the atmosphere is produced by using a gas separating apparatus employing a permselective membrane consisting of poly(4-methylpentene-1). The air to be supplied to the permselective membrane is previously heated or the module part of the membrane is heated to above 40°C. The permeability of the membrane through which oxygen passes at higher speed than that of nitrogen, is unchanged, and only the transmission rate of oxygen is enhanced. The oxygen-enriched air thus produced can be used without danger such as fire and explosion, because oxygen- bomb is not used.
