abstract 1488403 Dental materials PERDENT GmbH 21 Jan 1975 [23 Jan 1974 6 Feb 1974] 2593/75 Heading C3P A material suitable for dental application comprises (a) a polymerizable monomer and/or a polymer (suitable for dental purposes) selected from polystyrene polyamides, epoxy compounds, polyurethanes, and monomeric and polymeric (meth)acrylates, and (b) 10-90% of a microfine inorganic filler having a particle size in the range 10-400 mÁ. The filler may be SiO 2 , Al 2 O 3 or a glass, such as a borosilicate, or lithium/aluminium glass, or one containing BaO or La 2 O 3 , and may be silanized prior to incorporation into the dental material. In the examples, the filler employed was microfine silica, used either untreated or after silanization with methacryloxypropyl trimethylsilane. Various monomer/polymer/initiator systems were used, namely (1) "Bis-GMA" (based on bisphenol A and glycidyl methacrylate), plus ethylene glycol dimethacrylate, plus benzoyl peroxide, plus dimethyl paratoluidine, (2), 2,2 - bis[4 - (2 - hydroxy - ethoxy) - phenyl]- propane dimethacrylate, plus benzoyl peroxide, and (3) polymethylmethacrylate, plus monomeric methyl methacrylate, plus the reaction product of hydroxyethyl dimethacrylate and hexamethylene diisocyanate, plus benzoyl peroxide.
