(57) [PROBLEMS] To prevent a NOx absorbent that absorbs NOx in exhaust gas from being poisoned by sulfur compounds in the exhaust gas. SOLUTION: NOx in exhaust gas is absorbed in the presence of oxygen, and when the oxygen concentration of the exhaust gas decreases, N2 is released. A layer 26 containing an Ox absorber and a layer 2 containing a sulfur compound absorber that absorbs sulfur compounds in the exhaust gas in the presence of oxygen and releases it when the oxygen concentration of the exhaust gas decreases 8 is supported on the carrier 25 in a layered manner so that the former is on the inside and the latter is on the outside, and the NOx absorbent of the inner layer 26 is protected from sulfur oxides in the exhaust gas by the sulfur compound absorbent of the outer layer 28.
