PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide ruthenium as an active metal alone or at least one type of Ib, VIIb or V applied to a carrier. Together with the group IIIb metal, the total weight of the catalyst is 0. The process and the catalysts themselves are provided in which organic compounds are reacted in the presence of catalysts comprised in an amount of from 01 to 30% by weight, with very high yields or almost quantitative conversions being achieved. SOLUTION: 10-50% of the pore volume of the carrier is 50n. and macropores having a pore diameter in the range of 1 to 10,000 nm, and 50 to 90% of the pore volume of the carrier is 2 to 50 n. It consists of mesopores having a pore size in the range of m, the sum of the pore volumes being 100%. During the reaction, preferably hydrogenation, only a minimal content of by-products or decomposition products is formed, and the reaction product is obtained in high purity. |
