abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To show good opacity and whiteness, to be excellent in printability such as water absorption and ink transferability, and to have good polymerization stability during production and uniform quality. And amphoteric hollow polymer particles useful as a paper coating composition. SOLUTION: (1) A core polymer comprising a copolymer containing an acidic group-containing monomer, (2) an intermediate layer polymer surrounding the core polymer, and (3) an intermediate layer polymer surrounding the intermediate layer polymer. Having a multilayer structure consisting of at least three layers of the outer layer polymer, and having voids formed by neutralization of acidic groups in the core polymer, Further, amphoteric hollow polymer particles into which a reactive group exhibiting cationicity in a pH range of 3 to 8 is introduced after polymerization.
