abstract (57) 【Abstract】 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To satisfy various characteristics required for a bistable switching liquid crystal display element, to have a low viscosity in order to respond to a high-speed response, and to have an excellent low temperature compatibility and a temperature at which a voltage can be driven. (EN) Provided is a chiral-nematic liquid crystal composition having a wide range and having a small pitch temperature dependence. A liquid crystal component containing a liquid crystal compound such as a pyrimidine-based or benzonitrile-based H. T. P. (Herical Twisting Power: Spiral twisting power is 0.15 (μm ・ wt%) −1 or more, and at least one optically active compound is contained, and the pitch of twist is adjusted to 4 μm or less, and a chiral nematic liquid crystal composition. [Effect] While satisfying various characteristics required for a bistable switching liquid crystal display device, it has a low viscosity in order to respond to high-speed response, further has excellent low temperature compatibility, and has a wide voltage driveable temperature range. A chiral-nematic liquid crystal composition having a small pitch temperature dependency can be provided.
