abstract (57) [Summary] (Modified) [Objective] To provide a method for producing a honeycomb structure catalyst in which a large amount of a catalyst component is economically applied with a small number of coating times. A method for producing an exhaust gas-purifying honeycomb structure catalyst, which comprises fixing a catalyst to the surface of a honeycomb structure having a large number of cells formed in a gas flow direction, the catalyst being formed into an aqueous slurry. When coating and fixing the honeycomb structure surface, the coating aqueous slurry is a catalyst and an alumina sol, a silica sol, a titania sol, a fixing agent consisting of at least one or more sol selected from zirconia sol, acetic acid, acetic anhydride, An aqueous coating slurry containing at least one viscosity reducing agent selected from the alkali salts of acetic acid and a peeling preventing agent composed of silica-based ceramic fibers and having a viscosity of less than 100 cps is applied to the surface of the honeycomb structure. The catalyst is fixed on the surface of the honeycomb structure and then fired.
