titleOfInvention | Optical modulator and method of reading optical memory using the same |
abstract | (57) [Summary] [Object] To provide an optical-optical modulator having a high density, high sensitivity, excellent stability, and a simple structure. Also, A method of non-destructively reading a written memory using the light modulation element is provided. The light modulation element is composed of a polymer liquid crystal film in which a side chain polymer liquid crystal containing at least a photochromic compound as one component is uniaxially oriented. This light modulation element modulates light in a wavelength region where the photochromic compound has no absorption by using a change in refractive index anisotropy of a polymer liquid crystal film caused by photoisomerization of the photochromic compound. Therefore, it can be used as a stable and high-density optical arithmetic element and a rewritable optical memory material. |
