abstract PURPOSE: To prepare a high-solid thermosetting resin compsn. which is nontoxic and has a long pot life by compounding a half-esterified copolymer with a hydroxylated epoxy compd. n CONSTITUTION: A copolymer having no acid anhydride group and obtd. by half esterifying acid anhydride groups present in a copolymer of a radical- polymerizable monomer having an acid anhydride group (e.g. maleic anhydride) with another polymerizable monomer (e.g. styrene) and a hydroxylated epoxy compd. (e.g. a high mol.wt. compd. comprising a resin compsn. having an epoxy equivalent of 100-800, a hydroxyl equivalent of 200-1200, and a mol.wt. of 1000-8000 and obtd. by copolymerizing 30-70wt.% radical-polymerizable epoxy monomer, 10-50wt.% radical-polymerizable hydroxylated monomer, and the balance being other radical-polymerizable monomer) are compounded to give a high-solid thermosetting resin compsn., which is nontoxic, has a long pot life, and is useful for an automotive top coating material. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO&Japio
