abstract |
PURPOSE: To improve economy by segmenting a fuel assembly to plural regions in the plane perpendicular to the flow direction of a coolant (moderator) and using U fuel for the upper stream side region and fuel contg. Pu for the down stream side region. n CONSTITUTION: The fuel assembly 1 is segmented to the lower region 1 and the upper region 3 by an intermediate tie plate 4 provided in the part upper than the central part thereof. For example, 150 pieces of UO 2 fuel rods 5 are disposed in the region 2 and 312 pieces of MOX fuel rods 6 are disposed in the region 3. The assembly 1 is disposed with 19 pieces of cluster control rod guide pipes 7 over the entire length thereof. The coolant flows from the lower part to the upper part. The hydrogen to fuel atom number ratios adequate for the higher burnup is attained in the region 2 in such a manner and the fuel corresponding to the higher burnup is attained without decreasing the quantity of the fuel. The hydrogen to fuel atom number ratios can be set at the value adequate for improving the conversion ratio with the clearance wider than for a high conversion light water reactor in the region 3.
