abstract |
PURPOSE: To prepare a lubricant and anti-infective product with good mechanical characteristics by extruding a molten material from a die to prepare a medical product in which a first added amount of chlorhexidine is bulk dispersed in polymer and providing a coating of a silicone type lubricant and additional chlorhexidine on the medical product. n CONSTITUTION: This product contains a layer of chlorhexidine and silicone which coats a surface as well as chlorhexidine which is bulk dispersed inside. The product can be prepared by extruding a molten material of polymer and chlorhexidine from a die. The molten material to be extruded contains about 0.05-10% of chlorhexidine. The product is dipped in a molten solution of chlorhexidine to permeate a chlorhexidine layer into a surface of the product. In the case that a solution of solvent contains about 0.02-5% of silicone, an effective coating of chlorhexidine can be obtained. Lubricant/anti-bacterial agent is provided by dipping the product at an ambient temperature for a short time into a solution thereof. A suitable lubricant is silicone oil having a molecular weight of about 20,000-60,000 or a mixture thereof. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO |
