titleOfInvention Thermotropic, wholly aromatic polyester
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the title polyester of improved modulus and heat resistance by using four specified kinds of structural units. n CONSTITUTION: An equimolar mixture of a dicarboxylic acid (e.g., terephthalic acid) with an acetylated dihydroxy compound (e.g., bisphenol diacetate) is added to acetylated p-hydroxybenzoic acid and m-hydroxybenzoic acid, and the obtained mixture is polycondensed through deacetylation at 250-420°C in a vacuum to obtain the title polyester composed of a condensate composed of structural units of formulas I-IV (wherein R 1-4 and R' 1-4 are each H, methyl, ethyl or a halogen, p and q are each 0-1, k, l and m are the molar ratios of the respective units, 99≥k/l≥1 and 1≥m/k+l≥1/49), having an ability to exhibit melt anisotropy, an intrinsic viscosity of 1.0-5.0dl/g and a flow initiation temperature of 200-400°C and having a crystal size of 30-60Å and a bending strength at least one direction ≥20GPa. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO&Japio
