abstract | Ophthalmic devices include one or more first cross-linking agents that include (a) a large amount of one or more non-silicone-containing hydrophilic monomers and (b) (i) at least two ethylenically unsaturated reactive end groups. One or more first cross-linking agents, wherein at least two ethylenically unsaturated reactive end groups are (meth) acrylate-containing reactive end groups, and (ii) at least two ethylenically unsaturated reactions. One or more second crosslinkers comprising a sex end group, wherein at least one of the ethylenically unsaturated reactive end groups is a non- (meth) acrylate reactive end group. One or more hydrophilic polymers comprising (c) one or more hydrophilic units and a thiocarbonylthio fragment of a reversible additional cleavage chain transfer (“RAFT”) agent. It is a polymerization product of a monomer mixture comprising a copolymer and an ophthalmic device is disclosed to have an equilibrium water content of at least about 45 weight percent.
