abstract The device produces a multi-wavelength illumination beam and is configured to direct to a microfluidic target that may contain nanotags, to receive a multi-wavelength detection beam from the illumination source and the microfluidic target, and to generate a detection signal. The detector, the multi-wavelength detection beam, comprises light that is elastically laterally scattered by the interaction between the multi-wavelength illumination beam and the nanotag within the microfluidic target. Microfluids by comparing the device and the multiple wavelength lateral scattering intensity characteristics of the detection signal to receive the detection signal with a given multi-wavelength elastic lateral scattering intensity profile of one or more nanotag types. Includes a processor that is configured to determine the presence of nanotags within the target. Also disclosed are methods of determining the presence of different nanotags in response to a multi-wavelength detection beam based on the detected signal and a given multi-wavelength elastic lateral scattering intensity profile for different nanotag types.
