abstract | A compulsory method of forming side by side while avoiding damage to a second belt cleaning device and occurrence of poor cleaning of a nip forming belt due to generation of excessive overlapping portions of different color toner images in a forced consumption image. The reduction in the forced consumption efficiency of the toner due to the interval between the consumed images is suppressed. In a forced toner consumption process, a first superposition unit 704 in which a Y forced consumption toner image 703Y and an M forced consumption toner image 703M are superimposed as a parallel type forced consumption image, and a C forced consumption toner image 703C. And a second overlapping portion 705 on which the K forced consumption toner image 703K is overlapped are arranged in a first direction parallel to each other in a first direction which is a direction orthogonal to the surface moving direction on the surface of the intermediate transfer belt.
