abstract An aqueous pigment dispersion that achieves a higher level of pigment dispersibility and dispersion stability, and an aqueous ink composition using the aqueous pigment dispersion. An aqueous pigment dispersion containing an aqueous medium, a pigment, and a polymer dispersant, the polymer dispersant comprising a (meth) acrylate structural unit having a benzene ring, and a carbon number of 12 or more. The content of the (meth) acrylate structural unit having at least a (meth) acrylate structural unit having an alkyl group and a structural unit having an ionic group and having a benzene ring in the polymer dispersant is 20 to 60. An aqueous pigment dispersion in which the content of a (meth) acrylate structural unit having an alkyl group having 12 or more carbon atoms is 10 to 40% by mass, and an aqueous ink composition using the same.
