titleOfInvention Aluminum phosphate, composition containing aluminum phosphate, and method for producing the same
abstract AP is produced by binary condensation by the route of adding a base to an acid or the route of adding an acid to a base. In the route of adding the base to the acid, the aluminum hydroxide slurry is added to phosphoric acid and reacts to form an aluminum phosphate condensate. In the route of adding acid to the base, phosphoric acid is added to the aluminum hydroxide slurry and reacts to form an aluminum phosphate condensate. In an alternative route of adding the base to the acid, the acidic aluminum phosphate is first prepared by adding phosphoric acid to the first amount of aluminum hydroxide slurry, and such acidic aluminum phosphate is added to the remaining amount of hydroxide. It is added to the aluminum slurry and reacts to produce an aluminum phosphate condensate. The reactants can be controlled to form in situ layered aluminum phosphate. The AP so formed can be amorphous, crystalline, or a combination thereof, but has a low oil absorption and surface area, replacing up to 70% by weight of TiO 2 and constitution in the coating composition It becomes particularly useful in such end use applications as pigments.
