abstract |
A rare earth silicate-based hermetic layer is provided. A rare earth silicate-based hermetic layer includes a thermal spray coating including a rare earth silicate having an airtight microstructure. The environmental resistant coating includes a bond coat layer containing silicon and one or more rare earth silicate-based hermetic layers deposited on the bond coat layer by thermal spraying. The rare earth silicate-based hermetic layer includes a thermal spray coating including a rare earth silicate having an airtight microstructure. An article for use in an extreme environment may be provided with such an environmental resistant coating. Thermal spray raw material for producing rare earth silicate airtight layers.
