abstract An ingestible beverage or other food comprising one or more host molecules capable of binding to a fat molecule, such as cyclodextrin and / or amylose, wherein the host molecule is delivered to the gastrointestinal tract of an animal It is later possible to form inclusion complexes with fat molecules, so that the host can subsequently bind tightly to neutral fat molecules in the animal's gastrointestinal tract. A fat-binding composition contains an inclusion complex of a host molecule and a guest molecule. Guest molecules include one or more amino acids, vitamins, flavorings or related compounds, rutin, betanin, derivatives thereof, and mixtures thereof. The fat binding composition can take the form of tablets or powders, for example, and can be incorporated into food or beverage products. When in powder or tablet form, the composition may optionally contain a carbonation-generating component and can be dissolved in carbonated or non-carbonated water. The fat-binding composition can also be used in a method that binds fat taken by an animal, the method comprising causing the animal to take the composition or a food or beverage product containing it.
