An active material for a battery capable of realizing a non-aqueous electrolyte battery capable of exhibiting a high capacity retention rate after cycling and suppressing an increase in resistance value due to cycling is provided. According to an embodiment, a battery active material 40 is provided. The battery active material 40 includes a plurality of composites 41 and a binder phase 45 positioned between the plurality of composites 41. The composite body 41 includes active material particles 42 and a coating layer 43 that covers the active material particles. The coating layer 43 includes at least one selected from hydroxyalkyl cellulose and carboxymethyl cellulose. The binder phase 45 is made of at least one selected from polyvinylidene fluoride, styrene butadiene rubber, and an acrylic polymer. [Selection] Figure 1 |
