abstract |
A moisture resistant solid electrolytic capacitor assembly is provided. A capacitor assembly is provided that includes a solid electrolytic capacitor element positioned in a multilayer casing. The casing includes an encapsulating layer overlying the capacitor element and a moisture barrier layer overlying the encapsulating layer. Through careful control of the materials used for the casing, the inventor has shown that the resulting capacitor assembly is mechanically stable in the presence of high humidity levels (eg 85% relative humidity) while also exhibiting electrical properties. I found that I can do it. For example, the encapsulating layer can be formed from a thermosetting resin (eg, epoxy) that can provide mechanical stability to the capacitor element.
