Raman spectroscopy is used to detect, identify, and / or quantify a wide variety of analytes. The disclosed method and apparatus relate to Raman spectroscopy using a metal coated nanocrystalline porous silicon substrate. The porous silicon substrate 210 can be formed by anodic etching in dilute hydrofluoric acid. Porous silicon can be coated with a thin film of a Raman-active metal, such as gold or silver, by cathodic electromigration or any known method. The metal-coated substrate provides a broad metal-rich environment for performing SERS, SERBS, Hyper-Raman and / or CARS Raman spectroscopy. In certain other means, metal nanoparticles can be added to the metal coated substrate to further enhance the Raman signal. [Selection] Figure 2 |
