titleOfInvention | Systems and methods for the formation of carbon-based nanostructures |
abstract | Systems and methods for the formation of carbon-based nanostructures are generally described. In some embodiments, nanostructures can be formed on a nanopositor. The nanopositor, in some embodiments, can include at least one of a non-zero oxidation state metal atom and a non-zero oxidation state metalloid atom. For example, the nanopositor may include metal oxides, metalloid oxides, metal chalcogenides, metalloid chalcogenides, and the like. Carbon-based nanostructures can be grown by exposing the nanopositor to a set of conditions selected to cause the formation of carbon-based nanostructures on the nanopositor in the presence and absence of a growth substrate. In some embodiments, non-zero oxidation state metal or metalloid atoms are not reduced to the zero oxidation state during the formation of carbon-based nanostructures. In some cases, non-zero oxidation state metal or metalloid atoms do not form carbides during the formation of carbon-based nanostructures. |
