abstract | The present invention relates to methods and compositions for rapid assessment of fecal indicator bacteria in a sample. New primer and probe compositions are provided herein for use in detecting the presence of these organisms in a sample, particularly using quantitative PCR methods. Novel oligonucleotide primers and probes comprising the primers shown in SEQ ID NOs: 1-4, 7 and 8 and the novel oligonucleotide probe sequences shown in SEQ ID NOs: 5, 6 and 9, and fecal indicator bacteria in the sample, in particular Enterococcus species Spp.) and fecal Bacteroides spp., or methods of using these primers and probes for detection and / or quantification of analyte-treated controls are provided herein. |
