abstract | A surface layer having both mechanical durability and electrical characteristics is provided, and there are very few fine scratches due to repeated use, there are few defects related to output image quality, and excellent image quality can be maintained over a long period of time. To provide a method for producing an electrophotographic photosensitive member, an electrophotographic photosensitive member, an image forming method, an image forming apparatus, and a process cartridge. A photosensitive layer forming step of forming a photosensitive layer on a conductive support, and a mixture containing a compound having two or more methylol groups on the surface of the photosensitive layer, a polycarbonate resin, and oxide fine particles are used. A surface layer forming step of forming a surface layer by heating and curing the compound alone or together with the polycarbonate resin, and the surface layer has a Martens hardness after the heat curing in the surface layer forming step and before the heat curing.
