A method for producing an aqueous polymer dispersion, wherein a vinyl aromatic compound such as styrene, a conjugated aliphatic diene such as butadiene and an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic nitrile such as acrylonitrile is copolymerized in an aqueous medium. Describe. The copolymerization is carried out in the presence of decomposed starch and a radical formation initiator. At least a portion of the monomer different from the ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic nitrile is polymerized prior to adding the ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic nitrile to the polymer mixture. |
