abstract A calibration device for accurately and reliably calibrating an analytical instrument for reading a photoluminescent oxygen probe. The calibration device includes an oxygen-sensitive photoluminescence that is held in a hermetically closed space so that at least (a) the dye is isolated from ambient oxygen and is in fluid communication with the activated metal-air cell. A first assembly of sense dyes wherein oxygen penetrating into the hermetically closed space is rapidly consumed by the battery; and (b) oxygen sensitive in fluid communication with the environmental concentration of oxygen.
