Disclosed is a method for producing a dihydroxybenzene compound having a low brown taste in a high yield. A step of mixing at least one selected from the group consisting of a compound represented by formula (2-1) and a compound represented by formula (2-2) with a Lewis acid. A step of reducing the product of the above step to form a dihydroxybenzene compound represented by formula (1-1). [Wherein, Q 1 independently represents —CR 1 R 2 —, —S—, —NR 2 —, —CO— or —O—.
