Provided is a method for efficiently liquefying a component containing a polysaccharide such as cellulose or lignocellulose. A component containing a polysaccharide and a liquefying agent composed of a compound having a 9,9-bisarylfluorene skeleton [for example, 9,9-bis (hydroxyalkoxyphenyl) fluorene, etc.] are mixed under heating. To do. Mixing may be performed in the presence of an acid catalyst. By such heating and mixing, polysaccharides such as cellulose and lignin can be easily reduced in molecular weight, and a liquefied product in which components containing polysaccharides are liquefied can be obtained.
