A cosmetic or detergent composition comprising a highly stable and inexpensive polyglycerin alkyl ether suitable for a cosmetic or detergent. A cosmetic or detergent composition comprising polyglycerol 2-ethylhexyl ether, wherein the average number of 2-ethylhexyl groups added to the polyglycerol of the polyglycerol 2-ethylhexyl ether is 1.5 or more. This polyglycerin 2-ethylhexyl ether is obtained by reacting polyglycerin with 2-ethylhexyl glycidyl ether in the presence of a catalyst comprising an alkaline compound. [Selection figure] None |
