abstract [PROBLEMS] To improve the water affinity, emulsify even when water is mixed, and prevent the oil film from being cut by phase separation, thereby preventing the seizure of the sliding portion, and excellent as a multi-grade lubricating oil. Provided is a lubricating oil that has viscosity characteristics and can be suitably used as a lubricating oil for an automobile drive system. A lubricating oil according to the present invention includes a base oil and a viscosity index improver containing a poly (meth) acrylate having a hydroxyl value of 22 to 37 and having a hydroxyl group in the structure.
