abstract | The present invention provides a bleaching aid composition and a pulp bleaching method that are excellent in bleaching of pulp in combination with hydrogen peroxide. A bleaching assistant composition comprising a chelating agent (A) and a copper compound (B) used in combination with hydrogen peroxide and at a pH of 7 to 10. Chelating agent (A): a compound having at least one group selected from the group consisting of a group represented by general formula (a0-1), a group represented by general formula (a0-2), and a hydroxyl group. [In Formula (a0-1), X1 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkali metal atom, or an alkaline earth metal atom. In formula (a0-2), R01 and R02 each independently represent a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms. However, one part or all part of the hydrogen atom of the said hydrocarbon group may be substituted by -COOX2.
