abstract | Screening methods are provided for identifying patients likely to have ovarian cancer. The screening method includes detecting the expression of multiple biomarkers in the body sample, indicating that the overexpression of the biomarkers is likely to have ovarian cancer. The screening method may further comprise a two-step analysis. Biomarkers of interest include, for example, genes associated with defects in DNA replication / cell cycle control, cell proliferation, departure from apoptosis, angiogenesis or lymphogenesis, or cancer cell motility and invasion mechanisms Examples include proteins. In some aspects of the invention, biomarker expression is detected at the protein level using biomarker specific antibodies or at the nucleic acid level using nucleic acid hybridization techniques. Further disclosed herein is a method for detecting ovarian cancer in a patient. Further provided is a kit for performing the method of the present invention. |
