Poly (arylene ether) / polystyrene blends can be made by melt-kneading carboxylic acid compound, poly (arylene ether), and polystyrene to make a homogeneous blend and steam stripping the homogeneous blend. Wherein the melt-kneading step is performed at a specific energy consumption of from about 0.1 to about 0.3 kilowatt hours per kilogram of homogeneous blend. The method of the present invention makes it possible to make a homogeneous resin formulation while minimizing the styrene monomer content of the final formulation. |
