abstract | Retardation unevenness is reduced as compared with the prior art, visual characteristics when viewed from an oblique direction are improved, and front contrast is increased. An optical compensation film includes an optically biaxial support body that is manufactured in a film shape while being transported in a transport direction, and a liquid crystal layer in which rod-shaped liquid crystals are aligned in a direction perpendicular to the support body. 6. The support 4 has an in-plane retardation value Re (= (nx−ny) × when the refractive index in two in-plane directions is nx, ny (where nx> ny) and the thickness is d (μm). d) satisfies 50 ≦ Re ≦ 130, and at least one of the breaking elongation in the carrying direction and the breaking elongation in the direction perpendicular to the carrying direction is less than 10%.
