The present invention provides a catalyst for producing a novel α-amino nitrile having high catalytic activity, easy separation / recovery, and a wide substrate application range, and a high yield of an α-amino nitrile compound using the catalyst. [Solution] A method for producing an α-amino nitrile compound by reacting an organic carbonyl compound and an amine compound with a trialkylsilyl cyanide compound, and mesoporous silica or silica alumina which may contain aluminum is used as a catalyst.
