abstract | A main object of the present invention is to provide a polarizing plate for a liquid crystal display device which is excellent in optical characteristics and can be bonded to a liquid crystal cell without impairing the optical characteristics. The present invention relates to a retardation film comprising a base material comprising a cellulose derivative, and a retardation layer formed directly on the base material and containing the cellulose derivative and a rod-like compound exhibiting refractive index anisotropy. And a polarizer made of polyvinyl alcohol, which is adhered on the retardation layer of the retardation film, and a polarizing plate protective film adhered on the polarizer.
