Radiopaque polymeric stent |
abstract |
A polymer composition useful for a polymer medical device such as a stent is provided. The polymer compositions optionally contain halogen-containing, tyrosine-derived diphenols, along with other groups such as dicarboxylic acids and / or poly (alkylene oxides), resulting in the formation of these polymer compositions. The medical devices that are made are bioabsorbable and essentially radiopaque and provide physical and mechanical properties consistent with the intended use of such devices. A hydrolytically unstable polymer is dissolved in an acid rich solvent having a pKa between 0 and 4 to form a polymer composition having free carboxylic acid groups instead of tert-butyl ester groups. .
