abstract A light emitting composition having stable light emission luminance, an optical device using the same, and a display device using the optical device are provided. A light-emitting composition has a phosphor having a surface coated with a transparent fluororesin (polyvinylidene fluoride or perfluoropoly (4-vinyloxy-1-butene)). The phosphor is a sulfide phosphor containing sulfur. The optical device includes the light-emitting composition and a light source that emits light that excites the phosphor. In addition, the phosphor of the light emitting composition is a first phosphor, the second phosphor 21 and the third phosphor 22, and the light source is a light source 24a that emits ultraviolet light, and is excited by ultraviolet light. The light source device 20a emits white light by mixing the fluorescence emitted from the first, second, and third phosphors. The display device includes the light source device that irradiates a pixel portion in which a plurality of pixels are arranged, and the light source device is a backlight that irradiates the pixel portion from its back surface.
