abstract |
An apparatus is provided that reduces the time required for tissue processing and analysis and reduces the size of laboratory equipment, the volume of reagents used, and costs. The apparatus includes (a) (i) fixing and dehydrating the tissue specimen, removing fat from the tissue specimen with a non-aqueous solution in a first container, and (ii) removing the tissue specimen and the non-aqueous solution from the first specimen. (Iii) a microwave processor that produces tissue specimens that have been fixed, dehydrated, and degreased by exposing the tissue specimen and non-aqueous solution in the first container to microwave energy; A non-aqueous solution source in liquid connection with the first container; (b) (i) impregnating the tissue specimen with a wax solution in a second container; and (ii) adding the tissue specimen and the wax solution to the first container. (Iii) an impregnation unit for producing a tissue specimen in which the tissue specimen and the wax solution are exposed to high temperature under vacuum to fix, dehydrate, remove fat, and impregnate; A wax solution source in liquid connection with the second container.
