abstract The present invention provides a cation exchange resin with reduced amount of eluate, in which residual impurities and generation of decomposition products are suppressed. SOLUTION: A monovinyl aromatic monomer and a cross-linkable aromatic monomer are copolymerized to obtain a cross-linked copolymer, and the resulting cross-linked copolymer is sulfonated to produce a cation exchange resin. A cation exchange resin is produced by sulfonating a crosslinked copolymer having a compound content of 400 μg or less with respect to 1 g of the crosslinked copolymer. Since a specific eluting compound such as eluting polystyrene is immobilized at the stage of polymerization, a cation exchange resin can be obtained in which there are few remaining impurities and little effluent is generated during use.
