PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon fiber precursor fiber obtained by spinning a flame resistant polymer, suppressing adhesion between single fibers during each heat treatment, and providing a higher performance carbon fiber. SOLUTION: A flame resistant polymer having a PAN skeleton is used as a constituent, and the silicon content per fiber weight is in the range of 0.01 to 5% by weight. During each heat treatment such as drying and stretching in the yarn making process, flame resistance and carbonization are performed. A precursor fiber for carbon fiber that is suitable for obtaining high-performance carbon fibers by suppressing adhesion between single fibers in the process, and a method for producing the same, and further a method for producing carbon fibers using the fibers.
