Improved termination and reduced gel of high cis polybutadiene |
abstract |
The present invention resides in a method for forming a high cis polydiene. The method includes catalysis of diene polymerization and termination of polymerization with a termination mixture comprising an inorganic base and at least one of an amine and a carboxylic acid. This catalyst system is a mixture of (a) an organoaluminum compound, (b) an organonickel compound, and (c) a fluorine-containing compound. The use of an inorganic base reduces the amount of more expensive amine required to effectively stop the polymerization and reduces corrosion of the reaction vessel. The use of carboxylic acids and inorganic bases results in very low gel content and reduces the corrosion of equipment used in the process. |
