PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a true spherical thermoplastic resin fine particle having a wide application range, a small environmental load, easy operation and high production efficiency without requiring a special device, and a true spherical shape obtained by the production method A thermoplastic resin fine particle is provided. SOLUTION: A method for producing true spherical thermoplastic resin fine particles includes a resin composition in which fine particles made of a water-insoluble thermoplastic resin are dispersed in a matrix made of a water-soluble material. After the resin composition is cooled and solidified from a melted or softened state without being deformed by stress, water-soluble materials are removed by washing with water, and spherical particles made of a water-insoluble thermoplastic resin are obtained.
