A novel aromatic hydroxy compound production method having excellent selectivity and versatility is provided. An aromatic hydroxy compound is produced directly from an aromatic compound by irradiating the metal-supported photocatalyst with light in the presence of water to hydroxylate the benzene ring of the aromatic compound. By light irradiation to the metal-supported photocatalyst, water hydroxylates the aromatic compound, and as a result, an aromatic hydroxy compound is produced. Therefore, an aromatic hydroxy compound can be obtained under mild conditions and with high selectivity. [Selection figure] None |
