abstract |
An object of the present invention is to provide a method capable of rapidly increasing the reaction temperature to a temperature higher than the boiling point of alcohol and efficiently producing terephthalic acid diester. When terephthalic acid and a monohydric alcohol are subjected to an esterification reaction to produce a terephthalic acid diester, the reaction is carried out in the presence of a compound having a higher boiling point than the monohydric alcohol (high-boiling compound) as a raw material. A method for producing a terephthalic acid diester, characterized in that it is started, wherein the boiling point of the high-boiling compound is preferably equal to or lower than the boiling point of the terephthalic acid diester produced in the esterification reaction.
