A method for producing L-amino acids such as L-isoleucine, L-histidine, L-slenion and L-tryptophan using bacteria belonging to the genus Escherichia. The method includes culturing a bacterium having an enhanced expression of a gene for L-amino acid biosynthesis in a medium, and recovering the L-amino acid to be produced and accumulated from the medium, The medium contains glucose and a mixture of pentose sugars such as arabinose and xylose.
