abstract It is an object of the present invention to provide a high light output over a relatively long operation phase as compared with the prior art. At least one LED (2) for delivering a primary beam (4) and at least one luminescence converter (3) for converting the primary beam (4) into a secondary beam (5). In the light source (1) of the type having the above structure, the luminescence conversion body is a polycrystalline ceramic body, and the polycrystalline ceramic body itself acts as a luminescent body partially or entirely, and is at least one of the base materials forming the ceramic body.
