(57) Abstract: A disposable absorbent garment 10 including a topsheet 30, a backsheet 32, and an absorbent core 342 disposed between the topsheet and the backsheet is disclosed. The absorbent core comprises an upper layer 342b, a lower layer 342c, and about 50% to about 95% by weight of a superabsorbent polymer and about 5% to 50% by weight of a stabilizing additive. It is formed from a folded laminate 342 comprising three layers, including a central fiber layer 342a. The upper and lower layers comprise a tissue and an airlaid fluffy pulp or synthetic nonwoven fiber layer. The central fiber layer is adhesively bonded to both the upper and lower layers. All layers together help maintain the dry and wet integrity of the absorbent core. Folding the thin absorbent laminate provides an absorbent core that can handle large volumes of urine. This collapsed structure provides a central passage 360 that provides a free volume to temporarily store liquid, and also increases the surface area of the laminate available to absorb liquid. Absorbent garments so formed are extremely thin, lightweight and economical. |
